Company Overview

First New U.S. Met Coal IPO in Eight Years

Clinch Resources Ltd. is a Tennessee-headquartered metallurgical coal producer with mining operations in Wyoming County, West Virginia. Led by CEO Jon Nix, the company holds a 54,000-acre footprint at its ARI project in southern West Virginia, anchored by the Lanes Branch surface mine — which commenced commercial production in May 2026, ahead of schedule, marking the company's transition from developer to active commercial operator and validating its near-term path to revenue generation.

Production at Lanes Branch is supported by Caterpillar HW 300 Highwall Miners, each targeting approximately 180,000 clean tons of met coal per year at a cash cost of under $60 per clean ton. Clinch holds 16.36 million tons of P&P reserves and 51.12 million tons of M&I in-situ resources across the ARI project, and a 39% ownership interest in J.J. Resources Inc., which controls nearly 24,000 acres in central West Virginia including the past-producing Meadow River mid-vol met coal mine. Clinch is the first new U.S. metallurgical coal producer to IPO in eight years and operates in the jurisdiction that supplies over 50% of the nation's met coal.

Investment Perspective

Our Position

Clinch enters production into a structurally tight global met coal market with U.S. critical-minerals tailwinds.

01
First Production Achieved

Lanes Branch reached commercial production in May 2026, ahead of schedule. The transition from developer to operator is the single most important value-creation milestone for any junior mining company, and Clinch has now cleared it.

02
Critical Minerals Designation

Metallurgical coal was added to the U.S. Critical Minerals list under the Trump administration, opening grant funding pathways and signaling federal strategic priority. This designation is a durable, policy-driven tailwind for U.S.-based met coal producers like Clinch.

03
Structurally Tight Market

Global met coal demand exceeds 1.1 billion metric tons annually and is expected to remain resilient through 2035, while new project supply growth is constrained by tougher regulation, rising costs, and restricted access to capital. There is no viable substitute for met coal in primary steelmaking.

04
Premier Mining Jurisdiction

West Virginia produces over 50% of all U.S. metallurgical coal. The ARI project's 54,000-acre footprint sits within a proven, infrastructure-rich basin with established rail access, skilled labor pools, and a regulatory framework familiar with coking-coal operations.

05
Brownfield Asset Base

Clinch's holdings are brownfield projects where much of the development work has already been completed. Combined with highwall mining at Lanes Branch — recovering coal from previously exposed seam faces — this materially compresses the path from acreage to revenue.

06
J.J. Resources Optionality

A 39% ownership interest in J.J. Resources Inc. provides exposure to an additional ~24,000 acres in central West Virginia, including the past-producing Meadow River mid-vol met coal mine — a meaningful second-leg growth option beyond the ARI project.
